Aww, a whole hundred-something people from the interblart like my sporadic icon posts enough to have friended this journal! 8D It is gratifying to know that so many people share my warped view of what is humorous when crammed into 100x100 pixels.

This is just a friendly note to say that the profile information for this community has been tidied up and supplemented with New, Improved Information.

Also? Expect a HUGE PILE of Simpsons icons in the extremely near future! And sin_agua, your icon is coming, too.

I thought there must be a community out there for needlework and/or other textile craft icons, but I couldn't seem to find one... so I downloaded a boatload of stock photos from Corbis and Getty Images and made some of my own!

This set deals with yarn, thread, knitting, crochet, embroidery and such... if anyone wants some quilting icons, let me know and I'll supplement this with a smattering of those, as well. Most of these are from vintage photographic or artistic sources.

Simpsony goodness! I'm working on some moodthemes, some more Discworld icons... lots of irons in the fire. But for now, the standard:

6th-Nov-2006 09:46 pm - Discworld, Wyrd Sisters, text-only.
Woohoo! I promised there would be more Discworld, and I have not let you down. This installment is from Wyrd Sisters, and the usual rules apply--don't pretend you made 'em, but you don't have to credit me. Comments and credit are courteous, but never compulsory. :)

Take all you like and use them in good health!

Long overdue, a new installment of Simpsons icons! (Don't worry, Discworld fans, more are coming your way, as well. ;)

These are a mixture of text-added and largely unaltered (save some colour tweaking and sharpening, maybe) icons. As always, take whatever you like! Comments and credit are courteous, but not compulsory. (Newcomers see 'rules' in my userinfo.)

18th-Jun-2006 05:11 am - Simpsons, various, no text added.
Here's something I haven't done in a long while--a no-text-added Simpsons icon post! Many of these icons already have their own text in the form of signs, logos, labels, etc... and others you might recognise as bases for icons with text added that I have already posted. Anyway, take and enjoy. Credit is courteous, not compulsory. (As per usual, there are thin white borders on a lot of these that might not show up against the background.)

A return to my 'roots'--a HUGE new batch of Simpsons icons! This is part one of two, since I don't want those of you on dialup to die of old age before 120+ icons load. :D There are a bunch of no-text-added Simpsons goodies to come, as well. As always, take and enjoy! Credit is courteous, not compulsory. (Apologies if any of these are repeats--very few are, if any.)

16th-Apr-2006 06:49 pm - Discworld, Pyramids, text-only.
It's my first set of... drum roll, please... Discworld icons! These are quotes from the novel Pyramids, by Terry Pratchett, and the first set of what will probably be many from one of my favorite authors and possibly the greatest living English satirist.

As always, take and use, use and take. Credit is courteous and appreciated but not compulsory (just don't hotlink and/or claim you made 'em, that's rude and gauche).

baldercrap
...I'm not one of those people who obsessively checks every commenter's userinfo to see if I've really been credited. I don't even require credit for the hundreds of icons I have made (although I do always appreciate receiving it). When you get right down to it, I didn't make (the vast majority of) the artwork I use, and more often than not, the text I add is a verbatim quote from the source material, too.

What do I do? I make every icon from a screencap I have taken (I don't use cap communities). I often adjust colour and sharpness and that sort of thing. I crop. I add text, I add brushes and effects, I add borders and sometimes other small touches.

I make the icons I do because it's fun. I enjoy it. I also enjoy making icons that other people like and use... it's a good feeling to know someone else likes something you have made, however small and cosmically insignificant that may be. Some of them take me a lot of time, and I once got pissy and foot-stampy over someone else modifying an icon I had made just for me. I decided that was silly, and would rather spread the love than chase after people demanding recognition. (I know other icon-makers feel differently, and that's fine--to each his/her own.)

But there is a big difference between not requiring credit for my work and being okay with someone taking credit for my work.

This post contains a Simpsons icon I made ("Go suck a Bible!"), as well as one made by _tayler (the pointy retro bra one). I don't much care if people share my icons, but this post was submitted to at least one icon community as this person's work. That irritates me.

Thanks again to fritters for noticing my icon and letting me know. Ultimately, I can't do anything about it--if you read the comments you'll (maybe) see that trying to discuss this with 0vary did nothing but ban me from her journal, since that was the best response she could come up with. *much rolling of eyes* Whatever. It's both flattering and lame to have someone claim credit for one of my little pictures... she couldn't make her own? And really, since I don't even seek credit, how hard is it to say 'I didn't make these, but they're cool and for sharing?!'

Some people.

EDIT: As I suspected, almost all of my comments have been deleted, except for those she'd like to use to try to make me look like an ass. Aww. That's adorable. ;D
14th-Apr-2006 02:11 am - Futurama, various.
Another Futurama batch! This set includes icons from the episode 'Where No Fan Has Gone Before,' which was requested by someone last time around. :D

30th-Mar-2006 07:02 pm - Ever more Simpsons icons, various.
The old standby again--Simpsons icons for all! This is about half of the new batch, but I thought sixty-plus icons was probably enough for one post. :P (I know, I know... it's like an illness.) I think I probably have enough of the no-text-added icons for a big post of just those, too, so they'll be coming soon. Still have Donnie Darko, more Futurama and the beginnings of a collection of Lost second season icons to upload, but I'll get around to them eventually.

For now--take, enjoy! Credit is courteous (and cool), but not compulsory. As usual, there are thin borders on nearly all of these that may not show up against a white (sometimes black) background.

Teasers, the rest behind the cut:

20th-Mar-2006 12:24 pm - Futurama, various.
A few of these may seem familiar--I've redone one or two I made a long time ago. It's a bit inevitable, especially since I lost so many of the Futurama icons I made when Photobucket decided to eat a whole bunch due to some server crash issue.

Anyway, teasers below, and the rest are behind the cut. Take, use, enjoy! (Like most of my icons, many of these have thin borders that may not show up against a white background.)

5th-Mar-2006 01:15 am - St. Patrick's Day set.
This is a somewhat slapdash St. Patrick's Day set I made using stock photos of Ireland--I wanted to try for something a little more elegant than the standard shamrocks, green beer and leering leprechauns. 'Kiss me, I'm Irish,' 'St. Patrick's Day' and blank versions are provided for most of these. The simple white borders on these won't show up against a white background, but each icon has one, even the blanks.

26th-Feb-2006 01:35 am - Simpsons, ever more Simpsons.
It's been a while since I did an icon post, I'll admit. I have icon sets from various shows and films that I'll be posting here eventually, but for now, an old standby--The Simpsons!

A couple of these may look familiar--I redid a few that I had made in the past because I had the opportunity to use a better quality copy of the episode this time. Take, use, enjoy... credit and comments are kind but not compulsory.

Oh, as for those Valentine's Day icons... I think they'll just have to wait until next year. ;)
17th-Feb-2006 02:26 am - Updates coming soon and stuff!
mere memory
I made a batch of Valentine's Day icons and failed to post them in time! Now they are trapped on my old computer until I bother hooking it back up to the network!

GO ME!

So... yeah. But new icons are coming! New machine, shiny new Photoshop... hooray. Soon, shiny new icons.

Stay tuned.
I was largely underwhelmed by the icons I made from this film the last time around. I am much fonder of these, which I think are crisper, subtler, more artistic.

(Side note: the enchanting Audrey Tautou won out over several other French actresses for a lead role in the upcoming film version of the immensely popular Dan Brown novel The DaVinci Code, opposite Tom Hanks. I suspect this will propel her to more mainstream popularity in the US, which I suppose is either a good or bad thing, according to your perspective.

Also, IMDb notes that the part of Amélie was written for Emily Watson, who declined due to, among other things, the fact that she doesn't speak French.)

These are a bunch of icons to which I added no text... most are signs, business cards, ads, and so forth from the show that already displayed text, and a couple are caps that I didn't think required a quote to be funny. XD

20th-Sep-2005 09:00 pm - Suggestions.
One of the fine icon journals to which I subscribe doesn't take requests, either... its author accepts 'suggestions' without the promise that all (or any) will ever be taken. I find this approach eminently sensible, and have decided to adopt it, myself.

If there is anything you would like to see, I am accepting icon subject suggestions from the very specific ('the rocket-in-my-pocket quote with Burns and Smithers!') to the quite vague ('tea') in the comments of this entry. I don't promise to make them, but if I get inspired or seek a challenge, I might.

In either case, I'm flattered you asked, and thank you for that. :)
